Sideproject: Beach Ball Rackets

Sideproject: Beach Ball rackets
Project I did on my own initiative beside my studies at uni in Australia. I am a huge fan of beach ball or Frescoball and wanted to make my own rackets.
Got to use some small pieces of leftover wood from different australian trees. There was just enough to make two rackets.
I cut out stripes of wood and put them in the order I wanted to get a nice colour combination. Glued them together with two component epoxy glue.
Drew up the shape by hand, as symmetrical as I could.
Used a band saw to cut out the overall shape and sanded it to get the shape I wanted.
Sanded the racket until smooth before i glued on parts for the handle.
Should have kept the original handle a straight rectangle until I had glued on the parts for the handle.
Think it turned out pretty good! Very satisfied!
Due to the thin leftover materials I started with, the rackets are a bit thin. The plan is to apply 2-3 layers of light fiberglass to ensure they can withstand the force of a smash.
Thanks to the guys at the workshop at QUT!

To be continued...
